All Leveler for Oct. 2024--Matthew R!

1. How long have you been doing CrossFit? What got you started?

I’ve been doing CrossFit for about 2.5 years now, starting at All Level with no prior experience. Initially, I was looking for a workout environment that offered something different following the challenges of COVID. I needed a program that combined strength, cardio, and some challenges without requiring extensive planning on my part. It was the perfect fit for me at that time.

2. What aspect of our core values of authentic, driven, and inclusive do you relate to the most? Why?

Among the core values, I resonate most with “driven.” While I may not aim to be the strongest or fastest, my focus at this stage in my life is on maintaining my health especially as I navigate my age. Working out provides me with the balance I need in my routine.

3. What do you most look forward to when you come to the gym?

When I come to the gym at 5:30am, I look forward to kickstarting my day. Completing my workout gives me a sense of accomplishment and reinforces that I'm prioritizing myself.

4. What is your favourite memory at All Level CrossFit?

I may not have one favorite memory, however, when I finish a challenging workout and realize how far I have come in my fitness journey, it reinforces my dedication to myself and the program.

5. What goals have you set for yourself in CrossFit that you’ve successfully achieved? What are your current goals?

When I first joined, my primary goal was to enhance my fitness as I rolled into my 50’s and refusing to be “too old” for this. I'm proud to share that I’ve made some strides in my fitness, yet my current goal is to string together pull-ups, a challenge I may one day conquer.

6. What advice do you have for someone who’s on the fence about starting CrossFit?

For anyone on the fence about starting CrossFit, my advice is simple: just do it! The beauty of CrossFit is that all activities can be scaled to suit individual needs, and you accomplish most thing in life my just doing it.

7. How has your experience at All Level CrossFit improved your life outside of the gym?

Through my experience at All Level CrossFit, I’ve not only committed to my fitness goals but also found increased energy levels that enhance my lifestyle outside the gym. It's been a fulfilling journey that I'm excited to continue.
