Mel S All Leveler for Oct!

1.) What got you started in CrossFit?  How did you hear about it?

I was sitting on the couch on a cold autumn day in October 3 years ago, buried under textbooks and assignments thinking, "I really really really need to get back to the gym". I had fallen off the wagon because of my academic stresses and strains. I needed something challenging, fun, and structured so that all I had to do was show up. CrossFit seemed perfect for that! ... and boy was it ever!

2.)  What is your favourite part about coming to the gym?

If I had to pick just one thing, my favourite part about coming to the gym is the inclusivity, the versatility of the work outs, and the humbling experience the WODS provide ... I guess that's not one thing.

3.) What is your favourite CrossFit movement?  Least favourite?

Favourite CrossFit movement: Burpee Box Jump (cardio junkie)

Least favourite CrossFit movement: Overhead Squat

4.) What are your goals in CrossFit?

My CrossFit goals are to make it to the Games of course! But if that doesn't work out I will settle for continung to improve my strength and endurance so that when a friend asks me to pick up a really heavy and awkward object, I can do so with ease while screaming "CrossFit!!".

5.) How do you explain your newfound obsession with CrossFit?

It's like Pringles, once you pop (or indulge in a WOD), you just can't stop! I knew right away that CrossFit brought a connection of both mental and physical challenges that I was not getting in other areas of my life. It's not only the best exercise regimen out there, you make a ton of cool new friends while looking good working out. Just look at any and all of the photos that J. Mack has posted of myself/anyone mid-WOD for proof.

6.  What advice do you have for someone who is thinking of trying CrossFit?

Do not become discouraged. Don't ever think that your are going to walk out of a WOD and think, "That was easy" .. unless of course you sandbagged the workout. CrossFit is always challenging and there are always areas to improve. And it's always FUN FUN FUN! You'll never be disappointed in yourself for attending a WOD!

7.  What does CrossFit mean to you?

CrossFit not only gives me a platform to practice my cheerleadering skills, but it always provides me with a daily dose of self-indulgence into something that is just mine. I can get lost in the 6-40 min WOD and not have to worry about any other stresses or strains in my life. It gives me structure, balance, friendship, and self-improvement.

8.  How has CrossFit helped you improve your life outside of the gym?

Prior to becoming a member of All Level CrossFit (Fitness & Perfomance) I would have definitely classified myself as an introvert. The environment and inclusivity that All Level CrossFit provides to us members has personally helped me hone my social skills and act more extroverted outside the box. I feel more comfortable and confident with myself, and more open to conversing with strangers.
