All Leveler Sept. 2021

1.) What got you started in CrossFit? How did you hear about it?

A few friends and I joined a CrossFit boot camp about four years ago. A friend of mine was already a member, and she convinced us to try it out. It was a six-week program, and I ultimately became hooked.

2.) What is your favourite part about coming to the gym?

Honestly, the gym is my happy place; it's my sanctuary. I love the idea of being in a supportive environment; everyone around me is trying to improve their health in some way. I genuinely feel part of a team when I come to a class, and it is nice to be in a welcoming, positive place. All Levels CrossFit embodies this motivational atmosphere that is just so unique. The coaches and CrossFit members help make the experience so fulfilling.

3.) What is your favourite CrossFit movement? Least favourite?

My favourite CrossFit movements are double unders, and power cleans. My least favourites are the handstand hold/pushups and devils press.

4.) What are your goals in CrossFit?

My goals in CrossFit have changed over the years; at first, my goal was to lose baby weight. But down the road, my goals shifted to gaining strength, being a good example for my kids, working on my mobility, tracking my macro intake, and so much more!. The knowledge I have gained from coaches and members has helped me implement more comprehensive goals over time.

5.) How do you explain your newfound obsession with CrossFit?.

So if you ask any of my friends or family what I am obsessed with, hands down, they will say CrossFit. My cousin even bought me a T-Shirt that says, "Stressed, Blessed and CrossFit Obsessed." That pretty much sums up a big part of my life. Being a mom of five can be challenging at times, but doing a workout elevates stress. I truly believe integrating CrossFit into my lifestyle has helped me not only physically but mentally as well.

  1. What advice do you have for someone who is thinking of trying CrossFit?
Take your workouts day by day, make time for active rest days, mobility, and eat clean food
    .
  2. What does CrossFit mean to you?
CrossFit is a place where I push myself harder than I would work on my own. It honestly feels like I am back playing sports when I was in high school, where you feel cheered on by your coaches and other members. There is a sense of acceptance and encouragement at All Levels that always pushes me to work harder. At the same time, it is adaptive, and you can tailor your workouts to suit your ability, which I love.
  3. How has CrossFit helped you improve your life outside of the gym?
The influence from CrossFit has transitioned to my family. My teenage daughters are now members at All Levels CrossFit. I try to incorporate everything I have learned about staying active and eating healthy in my home. I also plan on taking what I have learned from CrossFit into the classroom with me when I start teaching this September. I am so grateful for the routine I have been able to establish. My family eats healthier, we are more active, which has resulted in a better quality of life.
