All Leveler June 2021 Doug R.
1.) What got you started in CrossFit? How did you hear about it?
I watched one of the Crossfit Games documentaries on Netflix and it intrigued me...What attracted me was the pure fitness and ability the athletes had. At the time I was in terrible shape (although I wasn't really honest with myself about how bad) and I thought it would be a good way to get in shape. I liked it from  the first day but I had no idea how much it was going to challenge me.

2.) What is your favourite part about coming to the gym?
It absolutely is the people and community, all of us trying to better ourselves no matter the ability, age or fitness level in a tremendously supportive way. The inclusivity that All Levels and Crossfit provides to all of us and especially our Adaptive Athletes is inspiring.

3.) What is your favourite CrossFit movement? Least favourite?
My favorite are barbell movements especially the power clean  and my least favorite- Assault bike (Devil's Tricycle)

4.) What are your goals in CrossFit?
- To be very fit in my older years
- Continue towards a healthier lifestyle
-Be capable at all the movements from running to muscle ups
-Continue to improve my weaknesses one by one
-Keep competing in  the Open and then maybe, just maybe….

5.) How do you explain your newfound obsession with CrossFit?.
It challenges me in all kinds of ways and on all levels, physically, emotionally and spiritually! There is just something about it that makes me want more. I have been part of All Levels since the end of the 2018 Open and at times for mostly the wrong reasons I have not been consistent. Each time I go off the rails I realize more about myself and when I right the ship again I feel like it is a battle won! And it feels good! Staying consistent and trusting the process is important to me right now.

6. What advice do you have for someone who is thinking of trying CrossFit?
-Just show up. The rest will happen and when I only compete with myself I am much more intentional. It does not matter what other people can or can’t do. If I put the  effort in then MY results will and do follow!

7. What does CrossFit mean to you?
Community, family, acceptance, challenge, improvement, fun, pain, friends, competitiveness, fitness, humility, achievement, accountability, humanity.

8. How has CrossFit helped you improve your life outside of the gym?
Besides fitness I actually think it is rewiring my brain and the way I think. I have always thought of myself as a fairly positive, can-do type of person but CrossFit has taught me so much about that growth mindset we often talk about and how much my own thinking can and has sabotaged my life at times....It doesn't so much anymore and I am very grateful for that.
