April 2021 All Levelers, The Anands!

1.) What got you started in CrossFit? How did you hear about it?

RJ: I have been regularly hitting the gym for almost 4 years now, I was not seeing the results.  I had known for quite some time now that Crossfit combines cardio and strength in the form of HIIT workouts which helps in conditioning.  Sharmistha, who is a friend, started at All Level and shared with us her experience and we could not help notice the results in her.

Anu: After my second pregnancy I was trying to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight and health. I tried some apps and youtube stuff but nothing was working. Sharmishta mentioned All Level Crossfit and format followed which made me curious. I visited the gym, met Zack. The setup and energy inside the gym was contagious and I could not leave without enrolling.

2.) What is your favourite part about coming to the gym?

RJ: People and the positive energy- right from the time you enter the building there is this positive energy that is in the air; exuded by the people from the front desk to athletes to coaches that is so infectious; it is a big thing that we were missing out on when we were working out at home since last year.

Anu: Everyone has a place in this gym kids, adults, elderly people; also an introvert like me. Generally, if I enter any other gym I will feel a bit lost, where should I start, what should I do but it has never been the case in this gym. Even If I would shy away and feel hesitant to talk, coaches and all the people in the gym make me feel so comfortable. Very inspiring community.

3.) What is your favourite CrossFit movement? Least favourite?

RJ: I love doing strength movements, there is nothing that is least favorite.  I just need to get better at Pull ups, T2B, C2B and many more.

Anu: I love skipping, ground to overhead, push jerks/press, power clean, air squats, burpees . My least favourite is THRUSTERS, if there is something called least favourite of least favourites then it would again be THRUSTERS.

4.) What are your goals in CrossFit?

RJ: Stay in shape and I wish that my children can adopt this wonderful sport/routine  as well.

Anu: To be consistent and consistently improve. As far as goals with respect to movements are concerned I want to work on all the bar movements, toes to bar, chin to bar, chest to bar.

5.) How do you explain your newfound obsession with CrossFit?.

RJ: Every WoD I start with a fear of not being able to complete it, but then I surprise myself every time.  This is the joy of the sport.

Anu:  Stress buster

6. What advice do you have for someone who is thinking of trying CrossFit?

RJ: Results can only be materialized through consistent hard work and proper coaching.

Anu: You have to experience it to know what it is. You’ll surprise yourself everyday.

7. What does CrossFit mean to you?

RJ: Life changing experience; I wish I had started earlier.

Anu: Strength, Support, Success.

8. How has CrossFit helped you improve your life outside of the gym?

RJ:  Crossfit has strengthened my resolve of not quitting.

Anu: After my first WOD I was talking to a fellow athlete on the floor, telling her how ashamed I felt of being last one on the chart and she said “Hey, you are ON the chart and that's what matters”. Now I don’t hesitate to try new things.. And yes, I sleep well too :)
