What got you started in CrossFit? How did you hear about it?

I knew about CrossFit in general from seeing the games on TV, but was hesitant to try because I really didn’t think that I’d be able to do most of the movements. I also had a friend (Hendo) at the box who was selling hard to get me there and then I got passed a golden ticket, which was enough of a push the try foundations, and I’ve been here since then.

What is your favourite part about coming to the gym?

My favourite part of coming to the gym is the people and the team aspect of the workouts. I’m very competitive and played team sports growing up and loved being active, but that never really translated to the traditional gym for me, I always found it challenging to get motivated to go to the gym. For me doing a tough workout with others (or in my mind against others) , makes me feel that I’m part of a team and motivates me to do my best.

What is your favourite CrossFit movement? Least favourite?

My favourite movement is the squat clean and my least favourite is the overhead squat or squat snatch.

What are your goals in CrossFit?

When I started, the only goal that I had was to get in better shape and get stronger. Now my goals are specific movements, like hitting a muscle up or managing to string together more than 3 double unders.

How do you explain your newfound obsession with CrossFit?

I try to be mindful of the fact that many view it as cultish, so I try not to overdo it with others, but if anyone has questions I’m always ready to talk about it and hopefully convince others to give it a try. It took some time, but I was able to convince my wife to give it a shot and she’s been a member for a year and a half now.

What advice do you have for someone who is thinking of trying CrossFit?

Don’t put it off as long as I did, just give it a try. I know that is an intimidation factor, but that fades pretty quickly when you see how supportive everyone is of each other.

What does CrossFit mean to you?

To me CrossFit is more than just a means getting more fit, it is a community. I never expected that I would make so many new friends at a gym, but that is what happened; and now I look forward to our events, whether it is a competition or an Open party or just hanging out after a tough workout.

How has CrossFit helped you improve your life outside of the gym?

For starters I feel stronger and in better shape than when I started, but it has also given me the confidence to try things than may be out of my comfort zone, that I would never have tried otherwise.

Beginner Yoga Class Every Wednesday at 7:30pm (FREE!)

New Open Gym Hours!

You asked for it…and we listened.  We are now open from 6am-8:30pm Monday to Friday with Open Gym hours available all day and night.  If you feel like doing some bench press at 7am on Tuesday…you can.  If you want to hit a benchmark WOD that you missed at 2pm on Friday…you can!  So, no more excuses for missing a day, just get your butt in here and do some work.  And your reasons for holding onto that Globo Gym membership…no longer valid.  You can do bicep curls, ride the bike and bro-out whenever you want at your favourite spot…CrossFit AllLevels.
